As a psychology major, my philosophy of education strongly relies on the idea that educational techniques should be grounded in scientific knowledge about the process of learning. In addition, my philosophy stems from a firm belief that education acts as a powerful social force that is capable of providing a level playing field for citizens of varying backgrounds to learn together and from each other. Education is the key to the realization of the meritocratic ideals that western society stands for. Within my philosophy and most of the documents within this portfolio, you will find a bias towards discussion of language instruction. This field of education is of personal interest to me, as a speaker of five languages. I believe that learning multiple langauges provides individuals with the opportunity to learn from a broader pool of information while developing critical skills of learning and thining that apply to other learning processes as well. The following sections will include my extended philosophy of education and a summary of this philosophy, both of which reflect my interest in youth empowerment and language instruction through education.
