Contextual Cuing

"Taken out of context, I must seem so strange" - Ani DiFranco

The following paper was written in partial fulfillment of requirements for the Attention and Performance lab psychology course. This paper focusses on the psychological processes involved in priming. Specifically, this paper focuses on contextual cuing, a phenomenon in which people find it easier to identify a target if it appears in a context that they are already familiar with. This is closely related to an issue that I have focused on in my lesson plans, the importance of introducing new information in the context of previously learned information. My interest in contextual cuing is founded on the idea that it provides scientific support for the importance of context and structure in education.
