Education and Society

"The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem." - Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Carribean)

The link below is a research paper that was written for an anthropology course about societies of the Middle East. There have been numerous criticisms about society in the Middle East. However, political leaders in the Middle East are using educational reform as means to address the conflicts and limitations arising in the society. This paper outlines how education has been reformed over the course of the Ottoman Rule, British and French imperialism, religious rule, and finally democracy in some countries. This paper explains how political, economic, social, and cultural factors affect the design of education within a country and affect how this sector changes over time. This paper was crucial to my understanding of how education is closely related to a variety of other domains of society. Researching for this paper was also eye-opening to how education is shaped by the history of a country.
