My Concentration in Psychology

INTRODUCTION

I initially chose to be a psychology major because it seemed like the most direct and relevant path towards becoming a school counselor later down the road. What I didn’t know at the time is how much the field of psychology would help me to understand about the ways of people and the world. My courses have helped me to understand the processes of learning and cognition, the social world, the process of development, personality formation, and much more. Beyond the concrete facts that I’ve learned, my studies in psychology have also given me a schema for interpreting the world around me. This lens has helped me to be more analytical and observant, and has taught me how to make connections between the things I experience and observe.

In this section, I have chose to include work from only two courses. Though my other coursework was valuable in its own way, my work in child development and my senior thesis epitomized the work that I hope to continue with. Both of these topics are particularly relevant to my passion for education.
