Experiences in Education

INTRODUCTION

I find that each experience I have working with students only makes me more confident in my decision to work in schools. Each of my experiences has been so uniquely valuable to me. While my courses in school have provided me with the background and language necessary to process my experiences, my work in schools has been the most meaningful to me. I’ve been given the opportunity to apply my knowledge, the independence to try new things, and the gift of feedback from advisors and supervisors. With their help, I have learned from my mistakes and become more self-aware and confident in my abilities.

This section includes artifacts from some of my most meaningful experiences in schools. I've been lucky to have the opportunity to explore many different niches within the field of education, including: (1) designing and leading a painting class of my very own for 3rd and 4th grade students at Exploration Summer Programs, (2) volunteering at Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services at their child development center for developmentally delayed children ages 2-5, (3) social work interning at Sauquoit Valley Elementary School, a public school near Hamilton College, and (4) serving as a teaching assistant and mentor at Middle Settlement Alternative Academy. Each of these experiences has allowed me to explore my interests and has helped me to better understand my hopes for the future.
