NAME AND MEANING

"Shishbarak"

The word "shishbarak," used today in Lebanon, Syria and Pakistan, is thought to derive directly from the pre-Islamic Persian, and subsequently Arab word "joshpara", of which "josh" means "to boil" and "para" could mean "bit". However, in modern Persia this name has been replaced with "gosh-e-barrah" which means "lamb's ear".

"Chuchvara"

The word "chuchvara," used today in Uzbekistan, is a variation on "gosh-e-barrah" and so its meaning is also associated with "lamb's ear".
