Camp Jacobson at Robin Hood

For two summers I was a camp counselor for 2nd and 3rd grade girls.  My responsibilities included supervising my group, getting them from one activity to another, helping them get ready for swim time, and encouraging active participation by everyone at all activities.  During these summers, I developed a really strong relationship with my campers and strived to be the best role model that I could for the kids.  The administrators recognized my success as a counselor when I received counselor of the week honors both summers I spent working at the camp.  This is a photo from when I was awarded a staff of the week award:

I realized that I was able to form a really unique natural bond with the campers compared to some of the other counselors, which confirmed to me that I should work with children as much as possible in my life and should continue to pursue a career in education.  I became attached to my campers both summers and was always upset when we had to say goodbye and go our separate ways at the end of the summer.  I was always excited for when I could have another opportunity to work with children.  This experience kicked off my journey into the field of education and sparked my passion for working with children, which lead to all subsequent experiences in education and with children.  Here is one more photo of me and some of my campers during color war:

GO ORANGE :)

Color war was one of my favorite weeks of camp because it encouraged friendly competition.  Both teams learned the value of teamwork and how by cooperating and working together they could achieve a common goal.  Activities included sports games, team chants, relay races and more.  Of course, campers would be rewarded for good sportsmanship.
