When making wonton soup, wontons are most often boiled and served in a chicken broth (Chen, 149). Other common modes of cooking include frying, in which the wontons are shallow fried on both sides, called “jyan” (Chen, 8). Wonton steaming is also a common, healthier alternative to frying. All methods involve filling the wonton wrappers with a raw filling and allowing the filling to cook while encased in the wrappers.
