Welcome to Cori and Sara's website about beavers in the Adirondack Park

Welcome to our website that discusses the paradoxical role of the beaver in the Adirondack Park.  The beaver is an interesting animal that is often misunderstood.  Like humans, they are notorious for their ability to drastically change their environments.  They are paradoxical creatures because they are in equal parts destructive and constructive.  Their dams cause great flooding, and they chew threw valuable timber, yet at the same time, they altar wetland cycles in positive ways and their actions support a more diverse ecosystem in the area.  This website will take you through an introduction of the beaver, the beaver's history and present state in the Adirondack Park, and will ultimately show you that even though beavers damage their surroundings and cause mischief, they are a necessary part of the environment in the Adirondacks. The positive effects they have on the environment far outweigh the negative effects.

Fun Fact : In 1975 the beaver was made the official mammal of New York State.
